It’s been three full decades since Michael Jordan laced up the first pair of Air Jordan 4s in 1989, so Jordan Brand is throwing the iconic silhouette a 30th-anniversary celebration with this “What The” makeup. Combining signature details from a quartet of OG AJ4 colorways — “Fire Red,” “White Cement,” “Bred” and “Military Blue,” the “What The” is a potent but not overpowering homage to Air Jordan history.
Calling upon a mismatched style, these AJ4s spread each OG colorway’s accents around their netting, wings, plastic heel piece, tongue and collar in equal fashion. This makes for a look that’s very much the sum of its parts, one that’s much more subtle than expected from a “What The” release.
Although it’s somewhat hidden, the shoe’s most unique detail arrives on the lace tips: each features a series of numbers that’s, in fact, an original Air Jordan 4 product code from 30 years ago.
The Air Jordan 4 “What The” is slated to make its official arrival on Nike SNKRS November 23. The retail price is set at an even $200 USD.
